The Development Manager reports to NAWL’s Executive Director and supports the implementation of NAWL’s fundraising strategy, with a key responsibility of leading the planning and delivery of a major annual fundraising event.

The National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) is an award-winning organization dedicated to advancing women’s rights in Canada through feminist law reform advocacy. Since its creation over 50 years ago, NAWL has contributed to major milestones for gender equality, including in the areas of criminal, family, health and constitutional law. 
Job summary 
The Development Manager reports to NAWL’s Executive Director and supports the implementation of NAWL’s fundraising strategy, with a key responsibility of leading the planning and delivery of a major annual fundraising event. 
The ideal candidate brings solid experience in non-profit fundraising, with a demonstrated ability to identify and pursue funding opportunities, support donor engagement and stewardship, contribute to fundraising initiatives, and help diversify revenue streams. 
This is a full-time contract position, expected to begin in June or July 2026 and run until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability. 
Key Responsibilities 

Plan and deliver a key annual fundraising event, including sponsorship development and coordination 

Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and other revenue streams  

Draft and coordinate grant applications, and support reporting and compliance  

Support the Executive Director in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors and partners  

Contribute to donor stewardship activities, communications, and fundraising campaigns  

Track fundraising activities and maintain accurate donor records in DonorPerfect  

Support major gift efforts, including preparing materials and coordinating meetings  

Provide regular updates and contribute to reporting, including the annual impact report  

Other duties as assigned. 
Skills and qualifications 

A relevant post-secondary degree (e.g. Business, Non-profit management, Communications), or an equivalent combination of education and experience  

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and partners  

Proven ability to plan, lead, and execute fundraising initiatives or events independently, from strategy through to delivery  

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and deliver results  

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small, dynamic team environment 

Excellent writing skills in at least one official language 

Experience using donor management and fundraising platforms (e.g., DonorPerfect)  

Familiarity with feminist issues and the social justice or non-profit sector an asset 
Work environment and work conditions 

You must be based in, or willing to relocate to, the Ottawa region. 

You will be expected to work in-person at NAWL’s Ottawa office two days per week.  

You may occasionally have to work outside of normal work hours (for example, evening meetings or events, weekend staff retreat). 

You may have to travel within Canada, unless it is not possible due to your circumstances.

Résumé du poste 
La ou le responsable du développement relève de la directrice générale de l’ANFD et appuie la mise en œuvre de la stratégie de financement de l’organisation. Iel est notamment responsable de la planification et de la réalisation d’un événement annuel de collecte de fonds. 
La personne idéale possède une solide expérience en collecte de fonds dans le secteur sans but lucratif et démontre une capacité à repérer et saisir des occasions de financement, à soutenir l’engagement et la fidélisation des donateur·ices, à contribuer aux initiatives de financement et à diversifier les sources de revenus. 
Il s’agit d’un poste contractuel à temps plein, dont l’entrée en fonction est prévue en juin ou juillet 2026 et qui se terminera le 31 mars 2027, avec possibilité de renouvellement sous réserve du financement. 
Responsabilités principales 

Planifier et réaliser un événement annuel de collecte de fonds, y compris le développement de commandites et la coordination 

Repérer et poursuivre des occasions de financement (subventions, commandites et autres sources de revenus)
