Position Overview: This role requires the successful applicant to work closely with the culinary team to ensure the success of our daily food offerings. The key responsibility is to work alongside the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs in executing culinary, with a focus on daily kitchen operations in the restaurant and banquet facilities. The Sous Chef’s key job functions include managing culinary staff, food preparation, guest interaction, ordering & inventory management, and meeting food safety and quality standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the preparation and execution of special events (weddings, golf tournaments, and other special events) and daily restaurant functions, as required.
  • Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods, as required, ensuring the items prepared are always of the highest quality possible, both in presentation and in taste.
  • Take an active role in the planning and development of restaurant features.
  • Assist the Executive Chefs and Sous Chefs with restaurant and banquet menu development.
  • Lead kitchen operations being able to work both independently and as a leader of the team.
  • Manage food delivery execution, in coordination with the Front-of-House Operations teams.
  • Delegate and motivate the other Chefs and Cooks in their work and development for leadership.
  • Assist the operational teams in the responses to online reviews or customer issues and complaints pertaining to food quality and service.
  • Provide regular feedback and recommendations to the operational teams regarding speed of service.
  • Assist the Executive Chefs in ensuring that business targets and objectives are met according to the standards established – i.e., food cost, portion control, food quality, productivity, labour cost, and speed in service.
  • Execute speed of service by providing the highest efficiency, whilst providing suggestions for improvements.
  • Inspect and maintain food service areas being responsible for ensuring kitchen staff clean their designated stations.
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly handled by staff and that equipment is cleaned daily.

Requirements:

  • Education: completed culinary training from college institution (or above).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a culinary role.
  • Ability to manage staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Refined culinary skills.
  • Candidate must be located within driving distance (or willing to relocate)
  • Work schedule based on the needs of the organization, which includes both weekdays, weekends and evenings
