General Accountability

The Community Engagement and Events Coordinator plays a vital role as part of a highly collaborative team to drive the continued financial growth and revenue goals of Ovarian Cancer Canada. The candidate should have a strong focus on building genuine relationships with individuals in the community, a pro-active approach to forging new connections, the ability to rally people together and unite them to make a difference for the cause. An entrepreneurial spirit, always researching and looking for new opportunities. The primary focus of this role is to work with our Community Engagement (3rd party event) portfolio and signature events, as well as providing support to our annual Walk of Hope which takes place in over 30 communities across Canada. The Community Engagement and Events Coordinator works closely with volunteers and in partnership with internal teams within Ovarian Cancer Canada including our Community Engagement leads across Canada, Marketing & Communications, and Fund Development.

Community Engagement and Signature Event Key Responsibilities

  • Support community and signature events through administrative tasks, sharing of resources, tools, and best practices
  • Assist with event logistics, attend, and supervise events as needed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders
  • Assist the team with developing and maintaining a fundraising pipeline of prospects and participants to grow the current Community Engagement portfolio
  • Solicit, leverage, and engage volunteers to support, initiate and facilitate events
  • Source and cultivate strategic partnerships with corporate partners to host a fundraising campaign or event
  • Explore existing community initiatives as potential opportunities
  • Maintain our current online fundraising platform
  • Update the corporate website with Community and Signature Event information
  • Deliver ongoing and timely stewardship of all key stakeholders including: sponsors, event hosts, volunteers, participants and donors
  • Create, maintain, and run regular reports for community and signature events
  • Develop an annual business plan with support from the Manager

Walk of Hope Key Responsibilities

  • Customer support and donor relations inquiries
  • Work with the team to identify and cultivate prospective corporate sponsors and teams
  • Represent the team at on-site and/or virtual Walk of Hope events and provide logistical support
  • Stewardship of Walk participants, volunteers, sponsors and donors

General Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fund Development team with annual campaigns and stewardship activities
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop strategies to significantly increase Ovarian Cancer Canadas revenue and brand recognition
  • Support the organizations volunteer management program including: recruiting, training and stewardship
  • Be an ambassador for the organization in the community and be able to speak to small and large groups about who we are, who we represent and what we do
  • Ensure Raisers Edge and Luminate Online best practices are followed for all donor, corporate and prospect activities
  • Any other duties as assigned

Resources and Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Community Engagement and Events
  • Works in partnership with all Ovarian Cancer Canada staff to achieve overall organization goals and objectives
  • Support to Committee Members, Volunteers, Walk stakeholders, Participants and Donors
  • Maintains contractor and vendor relationships

Skills, Attributes, Qualifications

  • University/college degree in Fundraising/Business or Event Management or related discipline
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in events, fundraising or project management
  • Experience in a non-profit, managing volunteers and working with colleagues at all levels of the organization an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and planning skills
  • Self-starter, capable of identifying the need for independent action, while valuing and developing cooperative working staff and volunteer relationships
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with track record for achieving results
  • Must demonstrate strong organization and project management skills with the ability to handle high volumes of work and shifting timelines and priorities during peak business periods
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative, tact, diplomacy, and problem‐solving skills
  • Proficiency with Luminate Online and Raisers Edge preferrable
  • Valid driver’s licence with the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset

Salary Range: $44,000 - $50,000 annually

 The successful candidate will be required to comply with a police background check as a contingency of hiring.
