Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.

The Opportunity

FSWC seeks an experienced Educator to join the education department. As an FSWC Educator, you will be responsible for leading innovative and inspiring programming in both in-person and virtual formats for elementary and high school students across Canada.

You will:

• Learn our Equity & Diversity student workshopsand lead students in both in-person and virtual formats through these workshops.
• Learn our Tour for Humanityworkshops and lead students through these workshops.
• Contribute to the development of new educational programs and experiences that align with the goals of FSWC,
• Build and maintain educational networks with teachers and community educators to ensure repeat and frequent re-booking, as well as participation in other educational programs,
• Build and maintain relationships with survivor communities,
• Assist with the planning, promotion, and successful execution of all educational events,
• Support other FSWC team members as needed leading up to and during annual organizational events (i.e., Spirit of Hope, Voices of Change, etc.).

You are someone with:

• Demonstrated classroom teaching experience, with a deep understanding of how to engage, inspire, and challenge students across a range of grade levels.
• Strong content knowledge in Holocaust and genocide education, coupled with a commitment to combating hate, discrimination, and antisemitism, and to promoting human rights both in Canada and globally.
• Dynamic and effective presentation skills, with the ability to create interactive, student-centered learning experiences in both in-person and virtual settings.
• Ontario College of Teachers certification or comparable teaching background, with a strong grasp of curriculum expectations and pedagogical best practices.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for school visits (required).
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build rapport and collaborate with educators, students, and community partners.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• A track record of collaborative problem-solving, creativity, and initiative in educational settings.
• Flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving educational needs and logistical demands.
• Confidence using a range of digital tools and platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom) to enhance teaching and learning.

What you bring:

• A passion for teaching about the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights, rooted in both historical knowledge and contemporary relevance.
• Bachelor’s degree in history, education or a related discipline.
• Direct experience teaching elementary and/or high school students, with a clear understanding of age-appropriate pedagogy and classroom management.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel, including early mornings and trips across Canada to reach diverse student audiences aged 8 to 18.
• French language proficiency is considered a strong asset.
